More Than Riding Lessons

At HF Horsemanship, we believe becoming a good rider starts with becoming a good horseman.

Our students learn more than how to steer, lope a circle or run a pattern. They learn how to communicate with their horse, recognize when something isn’t working, problem-solve, care for their horse and understand the responsibility that comes with riding.

We love to compete and we definitely love to go fast around here, but good foundations come first.

Those foundations are what allow our riders to become more confident, independent and competitive as they progress.

WESTERN RIDING LESSONS

Private and small-group instruction tailored to each rider’s experience, ability and goals.

Students develop strong western riding foundations while learning horse care, safety, communication, feel and practical horsemanship.

HF specializes in Barrel Racing, Pole Weaving and other WSCA speed events.

Riders interested in performance learn how to properly prepare themselves and their horse for speed events rather than simply learning the pattern.

LEASE OPPORTUNITIES

Select riders within the HF program may have the opportunity to lease one of our horses for additional riding and showing opportunities.

Leasing can be an excellent next step for riders who are ready for more responsibility and saddle time without immediately making the jump into horse ownership.

Lease opportunities are limited and offered based on horse availability and rider suitability.

A Smaller Program by Design

HF Horsemanship isn’t trying to be the biggest lesson barn around — and that’s intentional.

Keeping our program smaller allows us to know our riders, understand their goals and provide more individualized instruction and opportunities.

It also creates the close-knit barn atmosphere we value, where riders support one another, learn together and become part of a team.

Because we intentionally limit the number of riders in our program, lesson openings may be limited and a waitlist may be used when our schedule is full.

We’re looking for riders and families who are excited to learn, willing to put in the work and interested in becoming part of the HF program.

From Lessons to the Show Pen

There is no one-size-fits-all path at HF.

Some riders simply want to become more confident and capable in the saddle. Others dream of running their first barrel pattern, competing at their first WSCA show or eventually owning a horse of their own.

Our goal isn’t to rush riders through the process. It’s to give them the knowledge and experience to be successful when they’re ready for the next step.

Meet Haley

Haley Fuglseth

Owner & Instructor

I’ve had a passion for horses for as long as I can remember, but over the years that passion has grown into something I love just as much — helping other riders learn to understand and work with their horses.

My background includes western and English riding, driving, equine veterinary experience and extensive showing in everything from western pleasure and showmanship to WSCA games, barrel racing, rodeo and cow events. I also studied Equine Management and grew up involved in 4-H and FFA.

Today, my primary focus is western riding with a specialty in WSCA games and barrel racing.

As an instructor, I’m not interested in simply teaching someone how to get through a pattern. I want my riders to understand the horse underneath them.

That means learning feel and timing, developing good riding habits, recognizing problems, figuring out how to fix them and becoming increasingly independent as a horseman.

Seeing a rider gain confidence, accomplish something they’ve worked hard for and develop a genuine partnership with their horse is one of my favorite parts of what I do.
