Weather Guidelines

Here in Minnesota the weather can be unpredictable some days. From bitter cold & windy to hot & humid we have to take precautions during weather extremes for the health and safety of our equine friends and riders. Take time to check the weather on your scheduled lesson days to be prepared. If you are ever unsure or temps/weather conditions are borderline you can always contact us to check.

Winter Weather

During the winter temperatures, wind and road conditions can fluctuate day to day. We do have a small indoor arena but it is not heated or insulated so temperatures can really affect your ride.

For the safety of riders and our equine friends we have some restrictions for winter riding.

Lessons are typically canceled when temperatures are predicted to be below 15 degrees at the scheduled lesson time. If there is heavy snow, severe wind-chill or driving conditions are impacted then lessons may also be canceled.

If lessons are canceled, you will be notified as soon as possible. We do have the right to cancel lessons at any time, but try to give at least 12-24 hours notice.

Summer Weather

During summer months we watch the heat index to know what is safe for riding. In order to get heat index you add up Temp + Humidity.

<120 degrees = Safe

120-150 degrees = Use Caution

150 degrees = Don’t Ride

During these times of extreme heat there is lots of other fun on the ground activities that can still be done with the horses. You never stop learning! Bathing/hosing horses off is a very popular hot weather activity.

If lessons are canceled, you will be notified as soon as possible. We do have the right to cancel lessons at any time, but try to give at least 12-24 hours notice.
